From Magnolia to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Brion has created gorgeously witty and romantic scores for emotionally kooky and philosophically knotty films. His new score for the existential comedy I Heart Huckabees is signature Brion, combining swooning melodies with idiosyncratic instrumentation (harmonium, music box, and electric guitar) and fuzzy electronica in a dizzying smorgasbord of styles, from power pop and funky samba to laidback jazz. Featuring five original songs by Brion, funny-sad ballads of wry introspection, I Heart Huckabees is a near-perfect Brion score: smart, tender and uniquely quirky.
