Independence fair on the square

Tomorrow’s Record Store Day isn’t the only celebration of independent music-making taking place in Dublin this weekend. On Sunday afternoon, a fair dubbed “Independents’ Day” will take place at The Co-Op on Newmarket Square, Dublin 8, with music, screenings, exhibitions and various stalls taking over the space from noon to 5pm.

As its name suggests, the event celebrates and showcases Irish independent and DIY culture, from music, to art, comics, zines and more. Launched in 2008 by Anto Dillon – who runs the Dublin-based Loserdom zine – the event has grown in recent years and now takes a team of six for several months to pull together.

There will be live music from Melodica Deathship, Deepinthewoods66, Fern Floor and more, as well as rock ’n’ roll DJ sets from Beepbeep’s Bopshop and ska, soul and reggae from Tommy Rash. iti.ms/HSYxER
