There's been much chatter among the metal fraternity (and it is very much a fraternity) about this collaboration between Steven Wilson (from UK prog-rockers Porcupine Tree) and Mikael Akerfeldt (from Swedish metal band Opeth). The former are viewed by some as twee, but there's no doubt that the latter are among the most adventurous and experimental metal act of recent times. Judging from this collaboration, it seems that we have a new progressive thang to admire. Opening track Drag Ropes sounds like a very weird Beta Band; the title track and Ljudet Innan wouldn't scare any fans of Radiohead, Robert Wyatt or Sigur Rós, while the overall vibe is of distinctive art-rock put through filters of varying hues. Surprise yourself, why don't you, by copping an ear to this one. stormcorrosion.com
