Artist: Metronomy
Genre: Pop
Label: Because Music

Drop everything: the soundtrack to the summer is here. Metronomy have grown more exciting with each release, but the Joe Mount-led electropoppers’ fifth album is undoubtedly their pièce de résistance.

With everything played, written and produced by Mount, it’s hard to disregard him as one of today’s most visionary and underrated musicians.

Back Together's coalescence of jittery electropop, 1970s disco and juddering Korg outshines Hot Chip's most uplifting moments; Miami Logic is a glorious tribute to '80s-era Bowie; and the sexy, sleazy 16 Beat is pure Prince.

There's even a bustling, energetic duet with Robyn and a couple of judiciously placed moments of comparative serenity (Mick Slow) to temper the zeal. With so much colour packed into every track, Summer 08 is simply a superb modern pop record.
