Aero Flynn: Aero Flynn | Album Review

The forgotten hero of the same Wisconsin music scene that spawned the likes of Bon Iver and Megafaun, it took Josh Scott – aka Aero Flynn – years to find the courage to release a solo record.

Scott’s fragile acoustic compositions were subsequently stretched to include a glitchy electronic undercurrent courtesy of its producer, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

Scott’s brittle, mournful vocals are supplemented by the occasional burst of understated jazz drumming, electric guitar noodling and atmospheric synths.

It's a formula that indubitably works but is overplayed across nine tracks, and more often than not leads songs like the ghostly Floating to sound like Radiohead knock-offs.

A good or bad thing? These nine tracks are beautiful in their own way, but a little too slight to be truly commanding.
