Cork auctioneer, Denis Lynes expects a large 19th century Irish giltwood overmantel mirror to make £2,000-£3,000 next Tuesday at the sale he is conducting in Ashbourne House, Glounthaune. Measuring almost 8ft high and just over 7ft wide, the mirror has back panels stamped from Callaghan's Looking Glass Warehouse in Clare Street, Dublin. According to Mr Lynes, this is the first time the piece has come on the market since it came to north Cork in the 1840s. Another important item of Irish furniture is an early 18th century side-table, on four cabriole legs with carved shell decoration at the top and pad feet. It is expected to sell for £5,000-£6,000 but could very well go for more given the relative rarity with which such pieces now turn up for sale. Other lots include a Georgian chest-onchest and a Georgian bow-fronted chest of drawers. A number of pieces come from the home of Ms Marguerite O'Neill of Ballynaroon, Glanmire. These include a mahogany dining table and a set of eight mahogany dining chairs, as well as a Georgian corner cupboard, hall and card-tables and several chests of drawers.

The sale is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
