At last year’s Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais appeared to genuinely discomfit a few celebrities (though neither Colin Farrell nor Mel Gibson) with his pointedly acerbic quips.

It seemed odds-on that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organises the awards, would pause before hiring the comic again. Well, we did them a disservice. It has been announced that Gervais is, indeed, to host the 2010 ceremony.

“I can’t believe they invited me back after the awful things I said,” said Gervais. “Let’s see how far I can go this time.”
