Enrolment is currently taking place for the next full time, three term fine and decorative arts diploma course, which begins at the start of next month. Run by the Institute of Professional Auctioneers, in association with the Irish Antiques Dealers Association, the course was first held 10 years ago. Subjects covered run from the histories of furniture, painting, glass and architecture to the interior design of important Irish houses.

Field trips during the year include visits to museums, art galleries and some country houses, while daily lectures are given by experts in the relevant subjects.

The IPAV, in association with the IDA, is offering a scholarship to allow one student to attend the diploma course, with application open to all. The basic requirement is an essay of approximately 1,800 words outlining why the applicant wishes to participate in the course and to what use the diploma would be put.

Full details of the scholarship and indeed of the diploma course are available from Liam O'Donnell, IPAV, 39 Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, Tel, 01-6785685.
