The Adzido Pan African Dance Ensemble is the largest African dance company in Europe, while Sankofa is a spectacular display of traditional African dance and drumming. The dances come from companies as diverse as Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Botswana, Burkina Faso and Benin, while the dancers wear costumes with a percussive element, such as anklets of seeds or shells, creating cross rhythms to the drummers. As well as the various drums, traditional African instruments like the Belafon and a gourd xylophone from Burkina Faso are used. You can catch this show at the Waterfront, Belfast tonight.
