Last year it was announced that the Arts Council had allocated £1 million to the development of a dance centre, and then there was a long silence. It now looks likely that the Council will go into partnership with Dublin Corporation to develop a centre on a greenfield site on North King Street in Dublin. This would be a complex of studios, rather than a performance space, and would effectively fill the gap which the sale of Digges Lane has opened. The complex would probably also function commercially, providing dance classes and rehearsal spaces for theatre and for shows of the scale of Riverdance, which are now accommodated with difficulty in Dublin.
