A letter from Mr Christopher Kinder, chairman of the Post-Primary Music Teachers' Association, published in Monday's editions, contained two errors which were created during the editing process. Mr Kinder stated that the Department of Education and Science, under 1977 regulations, would grant £225 towards the setting up of a school orchestra, and that the bonus for taking part in a senior orchestra would be £45. Regrettably, the "£" sign was converted into the figure 6 in the letter as published.
A report in Monday's editions, stating that the decision by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Ms de Valera, to award a licence for the restoration of the Asgard was welcomed by the Asgard Restoration Project, also contained a statement that the boat will be used for sail training. A spokesperson for the project has asked us to clarify that they plan to restore the Asgard as a national heritage vessel for ceremonial and educational purposes.
A report in yesterday's editions headed "Cabinet meets today to discuss asylum policy" made mention of the "Clonakilty-based" Immigration Control Platform. The platform's secretary, Ms Aine Ni Chonaill, points out that the platform can be contacted in Dublin (PO Box 6469, Dublin 2) as well as in Clonakilty at PO Box 51.
When errors occur it is the policy of The Irish Times to correct or clarify as soon as it is practicable.
