Sean Hillen’s satirical photographic collages have become exceptionally well known and popular. Born in Newry, Hillen studied in Belfast and then London, where he gradually gravitated towards using collage.

When he returned to live in Ireland in 1993, he set about making a body of collages under the title Irelantis. The images take the visual language of John Hinde postcards and give it a surreal twist, allowing Hillen to comment on every aspect of contemporary Ireland.

The original series was complete by 1997, but Hillen has continued to deal with events during the Celtic Tiger and throughout its bitter aftermath.
