RTÉ NSO/MATTHEW WOOD NCH, Dublin Tues 1.05pm €10 01-4170000
RTÉ’s summer lunchtime orchestral concerts are not just congenial musical offerings for the middle of the working day. They provide a platform for local performers who don’t usually feature in the activities of the RTÉ NSO and RTÉCO during the rest of the year.
Next Tuesday’s concert will find the NSO’s principal oboist, Adrian Wilson, standing out in front of his colleagues for works by Donizetti and Morricone. And the conductor is Australian Matthew Wood, currently associate conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, who studied with the great Finnish conducting pedagogue Jorma Panula. His Dublin début is an all-Italian affair: he’ll also be conducting works by Verdi, Mascagni and Ponchielli.
