EDWARD FREEMAN, the US professor of philosophy and business administration best known for his work on stakeholder theory, is to give a public address at the DCU Ryan Academy in the Citywest Business Campus on Wednesday, September 14th next.
Prof Freeman is to discuss what went wrong in the financial crisis and to present a new, responsible approach for Irish business.
He will offer suggestions for the rebuilding of a prosperous Irish economy based on a new managerial mindset, according to the organisers.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is being organised by the Institute of Ethics in Dublin City University and the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland.
After Prof Freeman’s address there is to be a panel discussion with participation from Brian Hayes, managing director, Citibank Europe; John Eager, chief executive, Snap; and Liam Ryan, managing director of SAP Ireland.
Niall Gallagher, chairman of the association, and Dr Simone de Colle, a lecturer in business ethics in DCU, will also participate.
Stakeholder theory both describes and recommends methods by which management can give due regard to the interests of stakeholder groups. The theory argues there are other stakeholders over and above shareholders, employees and customers, such as government bodies, political groups and even sometimes competitors.
