The German bourse paused for breath yesterday, depressed by declines in US shares been triggered by concern that interest rates might rise. The blue-chip Xetra DAX index sank to its lowest levels of the day as profit-taking took its toll after the market's recent ascent to record heights.
Paris CAC-40: 3414.87 (-31.83)
In Paris, the main CAC-40 index shed 0.66 per cent after rising for five consecutive days. Motor manufacturer, Renault, which makes up about 5 per cent of total CAC-40 volume, was down 4.28 per cent at 199 francs.
The early depression in shares in New York also played a part in cutting any gains, he added.

Italian shares closed near the day's highs, buoyed by inflows of liquidity from mutual funds as investors sold bonds and switched into stocks. Shares of holding companies rose as investors decided they were trading at a discount too high to the underlying value of their assets.
