Hotel prices ‘at their lowest’ for 11 months

Survey by search site Trivago shows average prices are falling

Average hotel prices in Dublin are at their lowest for eleven months, according to search site Trivago. ie.

It says the average cost of a room in the capital is €112 compared to €132 in December, which represents a reduction of 15 per cent.

Elsewhere, prices have also fallen across the rest of Ireland and Europe.

Prices in Dublin are at their lowest since February 2015, when the average price of a room was €108.

Despite this, prices are up 17 per cent year-on-year, compared to €96 in January 2015.

Meanwhile, prices across Ireland have fallen by five per cent compared to last month. The average hotel room costs €93 in January, compared to €98 in December 2015. Prices are up six per cent year-on-year, compared to €88 in January 2015.

The largest month-on-month decreases were found in Dublin (€112, down 15 per cent from €132 in December), Kinsale (€88, down 15 per cent from €103 in December), Cork (€95, down 11 per cent from €107 in December) and Dingle (€84, down 11 per cent from €94 in December).

Elsewhere, Westport saw the largest month-on-month increase in December, with prices up to €96, which is nine per cent higher than in December when the average room cost €88.

Hotel prices have fallen across Europe in January. Based on the 50 most popular European cities on Trivago, hotel prices have dropped by an average of five per cent in comparison to December 2015.
