Town, country join in demand for David Dilger

THERE was unseemly good cheer at the IFA's beet farmers' protest outside the Greencore headquarters on Earlsfort Terrace in Dublin earlier this week. The farmers on arrival found they couldn't get close to the Greencore HQ as the old concourse outside is now a multi-storey building site. So they began to pace up and down the pavement on the far side of the street, placards with angry messages resting on their overworked shoulders. Pretty soon the slagging between the farmers and the building workers on the scaffolding had everyone laughing. The urban-rural divide disappeared when both sides of the street started to chant for an appearance by Greencore chief executive, David Dilger. But he never showed.
