Web Log: Kickstarter introduces live video feature

Crowdfunding platform’s new feature allows creators to talk to potential investors

Crowdfunding website Kickstarter has been around for seven years now and since the beginning the formula has remained unchanged: someone has an idea for a new product, makes a prototype, adds some information and hopes the crowd goes for it.

It has spawned some very successful and highly funded projects including the Pebble 2 smartwatch, the Veronica Mars movie and cult card game Exploding Kittens but it can sometimes be difficult to get a feel for the product or the people behind it.

This is probably why the crowdfunding platform has introduced Kickstarter Live, giving creators a chance to host live video chats where potential funders can talk to them, take part in a Q&A or just watch them demo their product, which is especially useful for the many card games and board games launching on Kickstarter at any given time.

The other reason is for more community engagement – a bonus for the serial funders loyal to the site. Kickstarter users can simply subscribe to upcoming streams or replay past ones.
