TuneUp 3.0
While I have long embraced Spotify and recently discovered Rdio, I haven't abandoned my physical iTunes library altogether; I'm not prepared to dump the Def Leppard back catalogue just yet.

TuneUp is the perfect add-on: it cleans up duplicate or mislabelled songs and fixes ones without album artwork that were added manually from CDs. TuneUp "automagically" organises the iTunes library in terms of "looks okay" and "needs fixing". Albums can be fixed individually or in batches.

Plants vs Zombies 2:It's About Time

The sequel to the hugely popular PVS was released earlier this month. It has already been downloaded more than 16 millions times worldwide but for now is only available for iOS.

This time players move beyond the back garden and travel through space and time to ancient Egypt, the Wild West and, erm, that specific time period when pirates who
said "Aar" ruled the high seas. No sign of an Android release yet but fingers crossed it won't take a year like last time.

The Ugly Animal Preservation Society
It's quite easy to feel protective about cuddly-looking endangered pandas and snow leopards, isn't it? Never mind the fact that you might be disemboweled, they have big eyes and soft fur; let's preserve them!

The Ugly Animal Preservation Society was started by science communicator Simon Watt who has hit upon a novel way of reaching out to the public and highlighting other less-aesthetically pleasing species at the same time. Go vote for the Society mascot and enjoy some comedy at the same time.

The Skimm
Lena Dunham (of Girls fame) subscribes to the Skimm. It might just be a daily email digest of what's going on in the news but it's a nice idea because it's tailored for "the educated professional who knows enough to know she needs more".

So if you're sick of Miley's latest twerking adventures and Cheryl's latest tattoo as what passes for news in women's publications then sign up for this. Warning: it's pretty US-centric. Can we have a version for smart young Irish women please?
