MOBILE NETWORK Vodafone Ireland has unveiled a new device that is designed to boost mobile signal indoors.

The Sure Signal device uses fixed-line broadband to create 3G signal for its network if there is none available, or improve a weak signal. Users can register up to 10 Vodafone numbers that are authorised to use the device.

Sure Signal, which will go on sale in about two weeks, will cost under €100.

The company also announced a customer increase in the last quarter, driven by smartphones and mobile broadband. It said almost half of all devices sold in December were smartphones, indicating a continuing appetite for devices such as Apple’s iPhone and Google-based Android handsets.
