Skulpt Chisel bills itself as the future of fitness. The device, its makers claim, will use body fat measurements and muscle quality to give you a more personalised programme, right in the palm of your hand.

Apparently it needs only three easy steps: spray the contacts on the back of the device with water, hold it against your muscles (or at least where they should be) and watch as it wings the information to your smartphone, where the app you should have downloaded will tell you what the device has gleaned from that brief contact - ideally, that your workouts are sending you in the right direction. It’s a personal trainer in your pocket, minus the shouting or the hefty charge that leaves your bank every month.
