Although these are designed to be used with your desktop PC, the speakers are equally at home with DVD players or music devices. Take your pick.

And there is a control pod for volume and bass levels.

Jukebox Dock

€125.39

Turn your (pre-iPhone 5) iOS device such as iPhone, iPad or iPod, into a jukebox with this colourful dock. It works with the 30-pin versions of Apple’s devices, charging them and also working as a speaker. It’s been authentically styled with neon, wood, and general all-round flashiness.

The speakers are decent, and it works with apps such as iTunes and some jukebox software. If you aren’t an Apple convert, you can still use the dock.

There’s an input cable that allows you to hook it up to any device with a headphone jack, although you will have to forgo the charging feature.

Sony

NEX-5R

€799

If you want digital SLR quality photos without the bulky camera, check out the NEX-5R from Sony. The camera has a 16.1MP sensor, and interchangeable lenses, so you get high-quality photos and versatility but in a much smaller package. It has a flip-screen so you can take self-portraits without the guesswork, and it is touch sensitive so you can control all the settings you need.

Superfast autofocus and high-speed burst shots of 10 frames per second allow you to follow fast action easily too. Camera apps expand the functions of the NEX-5R. You can add picture effects and share images over wifi.
