Ditch the PC with the Renovo Photo Scanner. This handy portable scanner will convert your old printed photographs into digital files at the touch of a button and store them straight to removable memory cards. You can choose to save to secure digital, MMC or memory stick cards – most of the main types of strorage. The images are converted to two-megapixel Jpeg files ready to upload, e-mail or just share with friends and family.

The scanner is speedy, but compatible only with 6x4 photos, so for anything outside the standard size you will have to stick with the traditional desktop scanner for now.

You can also hook the Renovo to Windows PC and scan files through the USB connection to your hard drive.

Blackberry Bold 9700

Three Ireland has finally launched a Blackberry service for business users, joining rival networks O2 and Vodafone. Its choice of handset is the Blackberry Bold 9700, one of the higher-end devices RIM has to offer.

The 9700 offers a high-resolution 2.44in display, perfect to view the images taken with the 3.2 megapixel camera. You can also record video clips, saving all your media to micro SD cards. The 9700 has all the connectivity options youll need, including Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS.

Best of all, it offers all the features you expect from a Blackberry – instant messaging, web browsing and e-mail, which on Threes 3G network is as speedy as youll need it.

Canon Ixus 300 HS €419

As compact cameras go, Canon’s Ixus is probably one of the most easily recognisable. Its latest incarnation, the Ixus 300, is the first to feature Canon’s HS system, which combines a high sensitivity sensor and Digic 4 processor. The end result is a camera that will take impressive images in even ordinarily difficult conditions.

Low-light images have less noise and, with the wider ISO range and faster shutter speeds, blurred, underexposed images may well become a thing of the past. Luckily, just because it’s been given some new technology, it doesn’t mean that it’s more complicated; the Ixus 300 includes a smart auto mode that will detect the shooting conditions and automatically choose the best scene mode for the shot.

It also includes the ability to take high-definition movies, making it a great all-rounder for amateur photographers.
