Microsoft posted a 60 per cent increase in quarterly profit, helped by strong sales of its new Windows 7 operating system, and said it expected business technology spending to recover this year.

The world’s largest software maker reported net profit of $6.7 billion (€4.8 billion), or 74 US cents per share, for its fiscal second quarter, versus $4.2 billion a year ago.
