US share prices closed higher yesterday, led by sharp gains in the technology and financial sectors, lifting the Dow Jones industrials to a new record close.

The Dow, which at one point had fallen 20 points, reversed the trend and closed 10.77 points' higher at 6,843.87. The broader market was generally higher as well, with the technology heavy NASDAQ hitting a new record as well.

Volume on the New York Stock Exchange 444.13 million shares.
