Mr Louis Schweitzer, Renault chairman, is today expected to present plans to buy a 30-40 per cent stake in Nissan Motor in what would be the largest single investment by an overseas company in a Japanese carmaker.

Nissan has been under pressure to find new sources of funding to reduce its debt load. Last week talks the Japanese company and DaimlerChrysler collapsed.
