The pharmacy industry is operating a "cozy cartel" in the Republic according to the Consumers' Association of Ireland (CAI)

The pharmacy industry is operating a "cozy cartel" in the Republic according to the Consumers' Association of Ireland (CAI). CAI chairman, Mr Michael Kilcoyne, says the Western Health Board's refusal to grant permission for a pharmacy in Knock, Co Mayo, was utterly amazing. The cartel was contrary to fair competition regulations and breached EU policy on competition.

The CAI said it would complain at EU level if moves were not made at home to end the situation.
