New European operations director at Quantam

Quantum Corporation has appointed Mr Dermot Short as director of its European operations and site general manager for Quantam Ireland. The company is based in Dundalk, Co Louth, and supplies hard disk drives for personal computers.

Mr Short previously held management positions with Amdahl Ireland and Madge Networks.

The Minister for Agriculture, Mr Joe Walsh, has appointed Mr Joseph O'Sullivan, chief executive of Drinagh Co-operative, to the board of An Bord Bia for a period of three years.

Mr Denis Lucey, chief executive of Dairygold Co-op, Ms Sara White, assistant secretary of the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources and Mr Michael Dowling, the former secretary of the Department of Agriculture, have been re-appointed to the board for the same period.

IAWS Group has appointed Mr Hans Droog as corporate and business development manager.

Mr Droog, a chartered accountant, is a partner in Ernst & Young and previously worked for Pricewaterhouse.

The new chairwoman of the Crafts Council of Ireland is Ms Frances Ruane, a lecturer in the History of Art and Design at the National College of Art and Design. Since 1980 she has been art adviser to the AIB Group and was previously education officer with the National Gallery of Ireland.

Standard Life has appointed Ms Fidelma Healy as human resources manager. She previously worked as human resources director with Cognotec Autodealing.

Marketing Network has appointed Ms Maureen Cuddihy to its client service team as planning director. In the past five years, Ms Cuddihy has worked for Guinness Ireland Group, most recently as marketing manager for Northern Ireland.

Mr Martin Higgins is the new secretary and head of corporate services with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. He joins the authority from the Department of Health and Children.

Ms Eilis O'Brien is the new head of communications, education and training at the authority. She was previously media relations manager with Bank of Ireland and public relations manager with Bord Gais Eireann.

The Lighting Electrical Distribution Group has appointed two new directors. Mr Brendan Bergin, formerly finance director of Smurfit Ireland, takes up a position as group finance director.

Mr Derek Slein, previously export sales manager, becomes export sales director.
