The Frankfurt stock market posted a modest gain as the DAX index finished up 0.21 per cent from the official close on Monday. But that was enough to take the indicator to its third straight record closing high. Traders said Wall Street's good performance on Monday more than made up for the negative influence yesterday as, a result of the dollar's weakness.
Paris CAC-40: 3188.43 (+0.93)
The Paris Bourse reached a new high - by the skin of its teeth - as the CAC-40 index finished up by a mere 0.03 per cent. The performance was the market's seventh straight winning session. Part-way through the session, the CAC-40 was in negative territory due to profit-taking, a normal phenomenon after six winning sessions, but the Bourse then rallied.

Italian shares closed near the day's lows as a weaker opening on Wall Street weighed on European markets.
