German shares were lower in late dealing but some traders said the slump would not deter the market's ongoing rally and prospects for the DAX to reach record highs next week.

Others felt the market might take a breather and trade in a narrow range ahead of next week's Fed's policy meeting.

The Paris Bourse zipped up to a record high in the morning, but then came in for a spot of profit taking after a string of five winning sessions to wind the day up with a small loss. Trading was again very active with volume of 10.2 billion francs on the monthly settlement market.

Milan Mibtel: 13388 (-19)

Italian shares ended slightly easier but off the day's lows after a quiet session. Dealers said that sentiment remains positive.
