Stocks ended the day slightly lower in New York yesterday, as technology stocks continued to slide. At the close of trading on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 0.26 points at 9,304.24. The Standard and Poor's 500 fell 8.96 to 1,239.53, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 36.42 to 2,373.65.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 3-to-2 margin on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,803 up, 1,175 down and 569 unchanged.

NYSE volume totalled 866.44 million shares, against 859.73 million in the previous session.

The NYSE composite index fell 3.76 points to 587.29, and the American Stock Exchange composite index fell 0.86 point to 706.26.
