"Free banking", except for pensioners and students, will be a thing of the past for Bank of Ireland current-account customers once the new account-charging structure is introduced in December. As most people whose accounts were always in credit (and therefore theoretically charge-free) know, there were still additional fees for a variety of services. The following is the list of service charges Bank of Ireland will be abolishing: annual cheque card, £3.15; replacement card, £5.00; annual Eurocheque card, £4.25; replacement PIN, £2.50; referral items, £3.65; direct-debit set up, £2.70; standing-order set up, £2.70; standing-order commission, 0.12p; standing-order amendment, £1.05; statements (over the normal 12 per year), £1; duplicate statements, first page, £3; subsequent pages, £2; interest certificate, £3; account-balance certificate, £3; cheque clearance of nonB of I cheques, £3; credit transfers to third parties, 0.40p; cheque sent for collection, £4; cheque retrieval, £3.50; stoppayment instruction, £4; account transfer, £3; account administration/ auditor requests, £26.
