The number of people on the Live Register increased in all regions during July as temporary workers such as certain categories of teachers and contract cleaning staff signed on for the summer.

The Central Statistics Office stated yesterday that all counties experienced a normal monthly increase with the exception of Longford where the Live Register actually fell by 1.3 per cent.

The total number on the register for the month was 203,231.

Based on a year-on-year analysis, the Live Register fell nationally by 12.7 per cent or 29,582 people.

The largest proportional fall was in Dublin, where the register fell by 19.4 per cent, reflecting the buoyant jobs market in the capital.
