King is gone but Reds still in the black

SADLY, even the world of high finance is cursed with a few social misfits who cannot bring themselves to support Manchester United, and the shock resignation of the temperamental French genius, Eric "Dieu" Cantona last weekend brought out the hyena in these types.

By 11 a.m. on Monday, £10 million had been wiped off Manchester United's share value and, while those who love football mourned, there was unrestrained glee amongst the ABU set.

But some perspective is called for the club's share price started the week at 634p, and dropped only to 628p by the close of business on Monday. Tuesday saw a fall to 628p, then a drop of just half a penny to 627 1/2p on Wednesday. On Thursday the price closed at 620p, and yesterday fell again to end the week at 615p.

Disastrous? Hardly, when one considers that at one stage on May 9th the price was at 587p, after a run of profittaking.

The Reds, it seems likely with or without Eric, will go marching on.
