The Minister for Finance, Mr McCreevy, has set up a working group to examine how to fund new infrastructure projects when European aid slows down.

Mr McCreevy has received Government backing to implement a public-private partnership approach to meet infrastructure needs. According to Mr McCreevy there will be a considerable demand for investment in infrastructure if the economy is to sustain rapid economic expansion. Mr McCreevy added that roads are a priority and that investment in road infrastructure is vital.

The inter departmental working group has been asked to submit its initial report by the end of June.
