Irish Life & Permanent could be forgiven for re-thinking its policy of sending its top executives to the Harvard Business School to learn valuable management insights. Two that took part in Harvard's Advanced Management Programme, Mr Michael Torpey and Mr Billy Kane, quickly decided to manage their careers elsewhere. Mr Torpey resigned as head of treasury to become a director at First Active, while Mr Kane this week said he is to pursue entrepreneurial interests. He said 60 per cent of the people who take this course subsequently leave.
