It is understood that Gill resigned on Wednesday and will take up his new role in mid-August after completing three months' gardening leave.

He joined Goodbody in 2002 and was head of its equity research department. He has carved out a niche as a leading aviation analyst in recent times.

Before Goodbody, Gill spent three years with ABN Amro in London and he also worked for that stockbroker in Dublin.

His appointment is a coup for Bloxham, which is keen to beef up its institutional business. Bloxham also recently hired James McGoldrick from Davy, where he was a long-serving member of its private clients division.

Four others have joined Bloxham's private client arm from Goodbody, Davy and Merrion in recent months and other appointments are in the pipeline.

Bloxham, which is led by managing partner Pramit Ghose, has grown its wealth management and private clients business in recent years. It has funds under management of about €1.4 billion.
