STRONG profit growth continued last year at Harry Ramsdens fish and chip restaurants despite losses, suffered at the new Dublin venture on the Naas Road. The Dublin restaurant is owned jointly by Ramsdens, former Irish football manager Mr Jack Charlton and a group of Irish investors.

Pre tax profits for the group climbed 21 per cent to £1.15 million sterling in the year to October 1st on turnover up 16 per cent tub £4.33 million. Total dividends are 11 per cent higher at 5p.

The first year losses at the Dublin outlet were in line with budgets which are aimed at bringing new ventures into profit over a three year period.

Ramsdens new £1 million restaurant in Belfast is due to open next month.

Ramsden's this week signed a deal with the Compass catering group to open up franchises outlets. Compass will use the Ramsden's name in at least 15 new sites over the next five years located primarily at international airports, particularly in Britain at European holiday destinations popular with British tourists and in the Far East and Australia.
