The former AIB whistleblower Eugene McErlean has been appointed to the Citizens Information Board by Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton.

Mr McErlean, a solicitor, was head of group internal audit at AIB between 1997 and 2002 when he was forced out of his job after he raised concerns about overcharging at the bank with the Financial Regulator.

He has recently helped prepare an international report on whistleblower legislation.
