The Irish Exporters Association has called on its members to vote in favour of the enlargement of the European Union on June 7th. Stating that the Republic has gained enormously from European integration, the IEA said the proposed new entrant countries should be able to increase their standards of living in much the same way as the Irish standard of living has improved since 1973. The first wave of proposed new EU entrants - Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia - will bring in 63.6 million new consumers, the IEA pointed out.
