Ernst and Young has announced the appointment of four new partners.

Mr Kieran Kelly, who joined the firm in 1986, has become audit partner, financial services.

A former army officer, Mr Paul Farrell, has become a partner in the management consultancy services division. He is an IT specialist, experienced in leading large project management and strategic planning assignments.

Mr Declan Gavin, has become a tax partner after spending more than 1 1/2 years advising US firms which are considering investing in Ireland.

Mr Declan O'Neill, who joined the firm in 1990, has been appointed a tax partner in the manufacturing, retail and distribution division.

Mr Patrick Wright has been reappointed to the board of Aer Lingus by the Minister for Public Enterprise, Mrs O'Rourke. He is a director, president and chief operations of the Jefferson Smurfit Group.

Fyffes has announced the appointment of Mr Frank Gernon, as finance director and Mr Philip Halpenny as company secretary. Mr Gernon joined the group in 1973 and his most recent position was company secretary and chief financial officer.

Mr Halpenny joined the company in 1989 and is leaving the position of managing director, corporate affairs. He will be taking responsibility for the company's investor relations programme.

O'Sullivan Public Relations has announced the appointment of Ms Ann-Marie O'Sullivan to the board. She is a graduate of UCC and has worked at the consultancy since 1988.

Ms Ruth Cotter has joined the consultancy as an account executive. She has previously worked with Brendan Bracken Public Relations and Park Communications in Dublin.

Mr Gerry Flynn has been appointed the new chairman of Londis supermarkets, replacing Mr Lionel Stein. Mr Flynn says a managing director will soon be named at the company.

The Junior Chamber of Ireland has elected Ms Pam Byrne, a retail jeweller with Irwin Brothers in Limerick, as its new president.

Mr Patrick Crean has decided to step down as a director of Adare Printing to set up his own venture.

Mr Michael Dowling has become a non-executive director of Irish Distillers Group. Mr Dowling was secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Food from 1989 until his retirement on April 30th, 1997. He is a director of An Bord Bia, visiting professor in the food science faculty of University College Cork and a director of the Agricultural Trust which owns the Irish Farmers Journal.
