Tullow discovers oil at Kenyan exploration well

Wildcat well is part of a major exploration campaign

Exploration company Tullow Oil has reported some success with its exploration well onshore Northern Kenya.

The Agete-1 exploration well in Block 13T has discovered and sampled moveable oil with an estimated 100 metres of net oil pay in good quality sandstone reservoirs.

The wildcat well, which is part of a major exploration campaign, made the fifth consecutive oil discovery in the rift basin.

Tullow operates the Agete-1 well, in which it has a 50 per cent interest. Africa Oil holds the remaining 50 per cent.

“A fifth consecutive oil discovery onshore Northern Kenya highlights the emerging world class exploration and production potential within our rift basin acreage,” exploration director Angus McCoss said. “An intensive campaign for 2014 includes appraisal and exploration within this first basin and pioneering wells targeting the prospectivity throughout the entire chain of similar rift basins.”
