Energy provider ESB has appointed Pat O'Doherty as its new chief executive.
He replaces Padraig McManus who is retiring after leading the company since 2002.
Mr O'Doherty, who is currently executive director of ESB Energy International, joined the group in 1981. He has worked in a number of senior management roles including general manager of Synergen and executive director of ESB Power Generation.
Chairman of ESB Lochlann Quinn paid tribute to Mr McManus today for leading the transformation of ESB from being a monopoly to working in a competitive market. He also welcomed his successor who he said was taking over the new role at a very challenging time.
Mr O'Doherty said he was delighted to be apponinted as the company's new chief executive and was looking forward to leading the group.
