Eastman Kodak, the US photography group, with 240 employees in Youghal, Co Cork, yesterday announced losses of $744 million (£543 million) for the last quarter of 1997.

The company said the losses were the result of a strong US dollar and the cost of shedding its office imaging unit. The company had recorded a profit of $164 million in the same quarter of 1996.
