Korean multinational Daewoo will cut 80 jobs at its Carrickfergus plant in Co Antrim, it was announced yesterday. Daewoo's electro-components plant, which employs about 150 people, blamed the strong dollar and the weak euro, as well as falling television prices. Elsewhere, 130 jobs will go with the closure of Courtaulds' lingerie factory in Portadown, Co Armagh, announced Thursday, due to competition from cheap imports. In Belfast, workers from the Kingsway meat processing plant, due to close, will be offered employment at the Denny plant in Portadown, according the firm's parent, Kerry Group.
