DAA awards final three T2 contracts

THE DUBLIN Airport Authority (DAA) has awarded the final three contracts for the construction of Terminal Two.

Between them, the contracts are worth more than €100 million and cover fit-out, specialist systems, and air bridges. All 17 contracts relating to the building of T2 have now been placed.

The value of each contract is not clear but the biggest one of the three is understood to be the mandate to fit out T2, which was won by Irish construction firm PJ Hegarty.

This contract includes the floors, walls, ceilings and all other internal fittings for the 75,000sq m terminal and the 24,000sq m Pier E boarding gate.

PJ Hegarty, which employs more than 700 people and has a turnover of about €770 million, also won the contract to build Pier E earlier this year.

European company SITA has been awarded the contract for T2's specialist IT and communications systems, covering check-in and flight information screens.

US group FMC Jetway won the contract to install 19 air bridges at Pier E.

"The placing of these contracts is another major milestone on the road to delivering T2 and transforming the passenger experience at Dublin airport," DAA chief executive Declan Collier said.

Construction work at T2 started last October.

The €395 million terminal is due to be completed in late 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010 following testing and commissioning.

More than 700 people are now working on T2 and the numbers employed on the project will rise to about 2,000 next year during the peak construction phase.

T2 is being designed and built by a project team comprising Arup, Pascall and Watson, and Mace.
