ViewingsEstate agents are having to add a new skill to their customer relationship repertoire – crowd control.
With so few new properties coming on the market in certain parts of Dublin, bigger crowds are turning up for open viewings and often a lone estate agent is left to deal with an impatient crowd.
An agent who had 60 people turn up to a viewing of a property in south Dublin recently said that a woman gave him “ a right earful” when she had to wait in line for him to take her details.
Another agent said there was a near mutiny at a particularly soggy Saturday viewing when he asked people to don plastic shoe covers before entering a house to protect the owner’s cream carpet.
“In the UK it is often the norm that people take their shoes off or put plastic shoe covers on before going into somebody’s house to view it,” the agent said.
“It is just common courtesy, especially in wet weather when you can have quite a crowd tramping through a house.”
