A building company has alleged most of the concrete basements supplied to it for installation in homes on an estate in Maynooth, Co Kildare, are in fact defective and have let in water, exposing it to loss and claims of up to €6 million.

GEM Construction Company Ltd, builder of the 78 houses with basements in Leinster Wood estate at Carton House, Maynooth, has brought proceedings against Orchardville Ltd, trading as Thermonex, with an address at Ballyredding, Bennettsbridge, Co Kilkenny, and Thermonex Ltd, of Manchester Road, Bolton, England.
