FAI CUP THIRD ROUND REPLAY Bray Wanderers 3 Derry City 2:SHANE O'NEILL was composure personified as he scored twice to put Bray through to a meeting at UCD as Eddie Gormley's 10-man Wanderers showed their mettle to come from behind against the First Division leaders.
Admittedly, a tedious first half struggled to come to life.
Bray goalkeeper Brian Kane had to be alert to save at the feet of Darren Cassidy after Emmet Friars had played him in behind Shane O’Connor.
But Cassidy punished negligent defending to finally spark the game to life with the lead goal on 29 minutes.
James McClean’s cross from the right was flicked on by Vincent Sweeney and Cassidy got behind O’Connor on the back post to drill his shot home off the far upright.
Rash defending at the other end brought the equaliser three minutes before half-time. As Derry failed to clear a corner, Thomas McBride, at 17 the youngest on the pitch, was booked for a naive push on Colm Tresson. Jake Kelly scored empathically from the spot.
Bray took the lead when Friars’ attempted back-header fell short and O’Neill, Bray’s lone striker rifled to the net.
Bray had left-back Dane Massey sent off for kicking the ball away at a free-kick on 63 minutes, his second booking.
That appeared to be a turning point as a stunning free-kick from Patrick McEleney brought Derry level on 75 minutes.
But virtually from the kick-off, the impressive Tresson got forward well to put O’Neill in to shoot home his eighth goal of the season.
