Wanderers given a vital boost

Eoin Cobbe ended the day with quite a haul when Wanderers pulled off one of their best wins of the season away to UCC. The outhalf kicked four penalties and a conversion and also crossed for the only try of the match in his side's 19-18 win over the students. For the Dublin side, the points were vital as they moved above Malone, Dolphin, Old Wesley and City of Derry in the table. At the top it was another satisfying weekend for Carlow, who crushed Malone 34-0. The five tries also gave Carlow a critical bonus point to eat into Old Belvedere's lead. While Belvedere comfortably swept Midleton aside 27-7, they failed to get the tries to add a bonus point to their haul.

Andy Dunne was once again the foundation of Old Belvedere's victory with a try, five penalties and a conversion to his credit. Carlow, however, notched up the points in a more lucrative manner - by running in tries. Mark Buckley and Ian Dwyer each scored two with captain Andy Melville adding the other. Matt Waterhouse converted three of the tries and added a penalty.

UCD kept their campaign steadily on the tracks with a six point win over Bective Rangers at Donnybrook. The win moved them into third place while Sunday's Well demolished Old Wesley 47-8 to move in just behind the students. Elsewhere Greystones continued their swinging form with a 157 win over struggling City of Derry. Dolphin, who lost last week to Carlow, were unable to get anymore than a draw against Ballynahinch.
